all about this product
Big stopping power doesn't need to involve a big mess. Hydraulic brake systems can require bleeding which can be messy, costly or both. The Avid BB7 uses traditional steel brake cables along with inboard and outboard adjustor knobs, Tri-Align Caliper Positioning System, and integrated Cable Stop spring tension adjustment to make setup a breeze. That's why Avid BB7s set the standard in the category of mechanical disc brakes.
  • Designed to be used with linear pull levers
  • Inboard and outboard pad adjustment knobs
  • Calipers have 74mm mounting bolt spacing and include adapters for 51mm International Standard mounts
  • Pad retraction and spring tension are adjustable
  • Integrated spring adjustment
  • 160mm rotor models include 2 caliper adapters and can be mounted post mount front, IS mount front or rear
  • Cable actuated, does not include brake lever
  • Caliper Positioning System aligns brakes perfectly with the rotor
  • Includes G2 Cleansweep Rotor
  • 160mm version is great for Cross Country, City or 29er use.
Shown with 160mm Rotor

Can I use this caliper with my existing Avid Juicy 5 levers?
answered by: jrichard
No, the Juicy brakes are a hydraulic system where the BB7 is a cable actuated brake. You need a mechanical lever such as the Avid FR-5 levers.

Bought these because I had to upgrade to disc brakes for a new wheel set. Came from a fresh set of Koolstop pads that worked great.

The modulation and consistency (not having to worry about debris on the rim) on these are much better. They make taking the wheels on and off much easier as well. I would say the power is as good or better than the fresh Koolstop pads. I would definitely say they are a worthwhile investment.

The only problem I had was mounting the rear caliper. In the directions, they show the mounting bracket with the label (160R->) on the outside of the bike. If you mount it like this, the caliper rubs on the outer edge of the disc. You must flip the bracket so the label faces towards the wheel.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

I love these brakes. I have these on my snow bike and would reccomend these brakes to anyone. I also use Juicy 7's on my niner set up and have to say the the BB7's are a nice, no hassle, easy to set up mechanical disc brake.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

Great brakes! I have had bleeding hydraulics 50 miles from civilization, never again with my BB7s! Work as well as any hydraulic I have used but a lot less maintenance and just a little weight penalty.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

What more is there to tell about these brakes? Every review you read sums up the quality, precision, and power almost perfectly.. Excellent product!

The only thing that I would suggest if you are upgrading to the BB7's is to go with a 185/160 combination for the rotors.. And dont forget to pair these with a complimenting set of brake levers such as the Avid speed dials or the Cane Creek Cirect Curves..

Summed up: Simply just can not go wrong with these..

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.

To be fair, I have never owned a bike with hydraulic brakes; however, I have ridden a few and can say that there's nothing substantially better about the feel or performance of the hydraulics I have tried over the BB7. Brake feel is fantastic (when you use good housing!) and they stop with urgency. I use these on my XC hardtail and full-suspension bikes for weekend riding and amateur XC racing and see no reason to use anything else.

Yes, I would recomend this to a friend.
